Mastering Eggs – scrambled, fried, boiled and more!

Let’s crack some eggs and get cooking! Here’s how to master eggs in five simple and foolproof ways: Scrambled, fried, poached, boiled and omelettes.

Scrambled eggs

  1. Crack the desired number of eggs into a bowl.
  2. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Optionally, add a splash of milk or cream for creamier eggs (about 1-2 tablespoons per egg).
  4. Beat the eggs until the yolks and whites are fully combined.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add a small amount of butter or oil.
  6. Pour the beaten eggs into the skillet.
  7. Stir the eggs gently and continuously with a spatula.
  8. Cook until the eggs are just set but still slightly creamy (about 2-3 minutes). Avoid overcooking.

Fried eggs

  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil.
  2. Crack an egg into a small bowl and then into the skillet or directly into the skillet.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook until the egg white is set and the edges are slightly crispy (about 2-3 minutes for sunny-side-up, or flip for over-easy or over-hard eggs).

Poached eggs

  1. Fill a saucepan with water and bring it to a gentle simmer (not boiling).
  2. Add a splash of vinegar to the simmering water.
  3. Crack an egg into a small bowl.
  4. Create a gentle whirlpool in the simmering water with a spoon.
  5. Carefully slide the egg into the swirling water.
  6. Poach for about 3-4 minutes until the white is set, but the yolk is still runny.
  7. Remove the egg with a slotted spoon and drain excess water.

Boiled eggs (soft, medium, or hard-boiled)

  1. Place eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water.
  2. For soft-boiled: Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 4-5 minutes. For medium-boiled: Simmer for about 6-7 minutes. For hard-boiled: Simmer for about 9-12 minutes.
  3. After boiling, immediately transfer the eggs to an ice water bath to stop the cooking process.
  4. Once cooled, crack, peel, and enjoy.

Basic omelettes

  1. Crack 2-3 eggs into a bowl.
  2. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste, and beat the eggs until combined.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil.
  4. Pour the beaten eggs into the skillet.
  5. Let the eggs cook until the edges start to set.
  6. Optional: Add your desired fillings (cheese, diced vegetables, ham) on one-half of the omelette.
  7. Carefully fold the other half of the omelette over the fillings.
  8. Cook for another minute or until the omelette is set – ready to serve.
